Promoting the history, use and improvement of canals in and near Milton Keynes​

'WATER, WIND AND RAIL
A fine evening featuring MK Canals' Chair David Wolfson, with Phil Marsh (railways) and Richard Wilde (Bradwell Windmill)
Based on the soon-to-be restored windmill at Bradwell, we will give our take on some key moments in Milton Keynes'  rich canal, windmill and railway history.

A wonderful weekend of boats, trains, talks, stands, exhibitions, amusements and food celebrating the extraordinary shared heritage of this undiscovered sports ground and the canal, right in the heart of Wolverton.

HISTORY PROJECT
Continuing our major project to create a history of the canals of Milton Keynes, based on our unique multi-generational approach. Click here for more information.

WATER TRANSFER
With our colleagues from Buckingham Canal Society and Bedford & Milton Keynes Waterway Trust we are briefing MK City Council, and we're working closely with the Grand Union Water Transfer Scheme to move a lot of water from the watery north and west to the dry east of the UK.

ACCESSIBLE MOORING BOLLARDS
Commissioning and installing new accessible bollards at Fenny Stratford and Wolverton

CANALSIDE IMPROVEMENTS
We're actively engaged in discussions and live projects to bring more animation and environmental improvements to our canals. More details as the year progresses.

In 2025 we:
  • opened a new bollard at and towpath improvements at Fenny Stratford
  • installed a new bollard at Wolverton Park
  • ran a range of Heritage Open Days talks and events
  • collected a wide range of materials towards our History of MK Canals
  • promoted water transfer schemes
  • completed the towpath vegetation project at Fenny Stratford
  • outlined schemes for improvements at Fenny Stratford and elsewhere

For the public benefit:
  • To preserve and promote the canals in and near Milton Keynes, so securing the canals as a public amenity and a facility for recreation and other leisure-time occupation in the interests of social welfare with the object of improving the conditions of life for the public at large
  • To promote the education of the public in the history and use of canals and waterways, in particular those in and around Milton Keynes
  • ​To promote the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment of the canals in and near Milton Keynes by promoting biological diversity.
