Fenny Stratford canalside improvements

A partnership project at Fenny Stratford, now managed by MK Canals, has brought together volunteers from four local groups to develop a project that's been funded jointly by Bletchley & Fenny Stratford Town Council with Canal & River Trust.

There's a new electric and water point (currently used by Elecra, Milton Keynes All-electric Community Boat).

Canalside landscaping and planting has transformed a scrubby and unloved towpath into a vibrant much-welcomed flower and herb area.

There's a new information and project signboard.

And later in 2025 we'll be installing bollards to help boaters of all abilities to moor up at this great canal location in the heart of historic Fenny Stratford.

Callum Anderson MP welcomed the project, saying
“This project is a great example of what can be achieved when charities, local government, and civil society work together. Our waterways are something to be really proud of, and they make a real difference to the wellbeing of local people.”

In 2024 a new electric and service bollard was installed in Fenny Stratford (Grand Union Canal). The Project funded by Bletchley & Fenny Stratford Town Council and the Canal and River Trust (CRT) with Bedford & Milton Keynes Waterway Trust (BMK).

MK Canals is project managing the later stages of the project, working with volunteers to reclaim the derelict towpath and install signage.

Planting was carried out in March/April 2025 and the official opening took place on 22 May with the Chair of Bletchley and Fenny Stratford Town Council, Ethan Kelly-Wilson, the Mayor of Wolverton, Bridget Lewis and the Mayor of Milton Keynes, James Anderson, and CRT senior managers Ros Danioels and Matthew Symonds.

Thank you to volunteers from Electra (Milton Keynes Community Boat), Bletchley Green Gym, the Inland Watwerways Association Waterways Recovery Group, and Buckingham Canal Society, and our other hard working helpers.
