A GREaT WEEKEND

A huge thank you to everyone who visited, took part in and helped behind the scenes to make the first Wolverton Canal and Rail Festival September 12th-13th a really successful event! Around 1,100 people attended the event over the whole weekend, with a wide range of stalls on the canalside and the recreation ground. Some stallholders made scarecrows to put the Festival on the town’s scarecrow festival route.
The Sunday entertainment outstanding with performances from MacIntyre Dance Company; they brought the sunshine out when they started dancing! The Bossa Boyz, Sarah Jones and Amy Birks had us humming along with their musical performances. Sara Basra created spoken word poetry specifically for the event, Florrie Bryant talked about the Wetland Arc Project and David Wolfson took us back in time to the start of the canal and railway in Wolverton. We were delighted that Chris Curtis, MP for Milton Keynes North, dropped in to the Festival. He said: “It was a pleasure to come along to this event and see people celebrating our heritage, keen to learn about our waterway history and just having a good day.” Events like this don’t come cheap! Thank you to our sponsors: Inland Waterways Association, Wolverton and Greenleys Town Council, Milton Keynes Community Foundation, Wolverton and Stony Stratford Rotary Club and Places for People. Thank you too to our supporters. HC-GB let us use their land, without whom we wouldn’t have had an event space to host the first Wolverton Canal and Rail festival. We appreciated the help of MK Music Academy. The Town Council, Places for People and Paul Smith ran a Scarecrow-Making workshop. The Canal & River Trust look after the canal, and the Floating Market on both days was provided by the Roving Canal Traders Association. The event was run by wonderful volunteers throughout the weekend We are grateful to them all. Most of all, thank you everyone for coming to the first Wolverton Park Canal & Rail Festival. We’d love to hear your feedback so we can make the second Wolverton Canal & Rail Community Festival in 2027 bigger and better. Provisional dates are the first weekend of Heritage Open Days, Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 September 2027. More updates in November when we’ve had and reviewed all feedback.
